Hello Natural Fibre Lovers!

We’re in the midst of a chilly Cape Town Autumn and I, for one, am so happy to have unpacked my “Winter woolies” to wear again in the cold!

We have some lovely new yarn & fibre craft supplies in stock:

We are always on the look out for beautiful, functional bags to hold knitting and crochet projects. The contemporary fabrics from Aureum Design are available in four different types of bags:

The bags are 100% cotton with hand-screen printed designs in water based pigments.
Find them on our website here.

Just in time for your Winter projects, Love Wool Plus from Katia a super chunky yarn made up of 90% wool and 10% Superfine Alpaca. Katia Love Wool is also a wool blend, but with 15% Alpaca. This yarn is super-soft for cowls, scarves and lovely chunky hats. Both these yarns work up up at super bulky gauge with 50m to 100g, so your projects will be done in a flash!

Drop spindles are a great introduction to learn how to spin your own yarn. We have small and large bright coloured, hand-painted spindles now in stock & available in our spinning section over here.

New to spinning? Add a printed leaflet with Instructions for spinning your own yarn on a drop spindle, or add an accessory kit for your spindle which includes fibre to get you started, a spindle bag + instructions to get you started!

We are so excited that we finally found a supplier for coin purse clasps & have a selection up for you to make your own little crocheted or knitted coin purse!

As an example of how to make one, the image below from the Nicollie blog is made with 2x simple granny squares! You can find the tutorial and everything you will need to make your own online over here on the nicollie blog.

Choose Vinni’s Nikkim / Bambi / Serina or Nurturing Fibres Eco Cotton / Bamboo / Fusion colourways to complete this fun little project!

Carle’ of Nurturing Fibres’ new pattern, the “Abalone Shawl” has been trending heavily and already has 45 projects listed on Ravelry!

This simply gorgeous shawl was designed for her absolutely beautiful new lace weight yarn, “SingleSpun Lace“, available in all the Vintage colourways. There are 620m to each 100g skein.

* We stock a FULL RANGE of Nurturing Fibres yarn – The Eco (cotton & bamboo) yarns as well as all weights in the Nurturing Fibres wool range, from SingleSpun Lace to SoftSpun Worsted!

We had our first ever Knit & Yoga Retreat with Beth of Bows & Arrows and Nina of Yoga Awakening Africa in Velddrif at the beginning of this year.

We drank cocktails (and mocktails), ate delicious healthy food, laughed , and enjoyed watching the light change through the day in our tranquil setting. Beth taught tips and tricks which she has applied to her new pattern – the adorable kiddie’s sleeveless cotton hoodie ~ Riley Hoodie. Nina’s led us through yoga in our beautiful setting overlooking the river with it’s bird-life and swaying reeds. It was a fabulous experience! Thanks again to all who came and made it so special! x

We would like to make this a bi-annual event, so please send me an email if you would like to be on the shortlist for the next one (towards the end of the year), else watch our Facebook page for news.

In the meanwhile, I have been working with Bronwyn Firth who is offering workshops at her home (near Simon’s Town) on a weekly basis. Please let me know what you’re interested in learning (and which day(s) suit you) ~ from felt making… learning to knit a hat/socks/shawl…if you would like to learn to spin on a drop spindle or spinning wheel ~ or if you’ve always wanted to learn how to crochet.

If you have tween/teenager(s) who would like to learn a fibre craft skill during their holidays, also please let us know. You can also keep an eye on the EVENTS CALENDAR page if you’d like to see what has been scheduled ~ We will load the workshops for the next 2 months by the end of this long weekend.

Enjoy browsing our website & we look forward to hearing from you about your favorite Rowan Yarns!

Keep warm, have a brilliant long weekend… and have fun creating!!
