Winter is almost upon us again here in South Africa, and we have been busy bees with lots of new and lovely products & yarns added to our site in 2014 so far!
I hope you’ve already dusted off your needles/hooks, organised your yarn stash & started planning your Winter-woolies!
At Natural Yarns, we believe in supporting yarn suppliers who, where possible, support local workers and particularly the empowerment of women from economically disadvantaged communities. Vinni Nielsen of Vinnis Colours is one such producer, and we are happy to stock colourways from the Nikkim (100% cotton) and Serina (100% bamboo) ranges. Our Vinni’s colour ranges have been carefully selected to suit a variety of colour tastes & combinations for various projects:
There are three types of crochet hooks available:
- Waves which have colour code grips unique to each size and have proven to be very popular,
- Soft Handle: aluminium silver hooks with a soft handle and the
- Steel hooks with gold tip which are available in the smaller sizes, 0.5mm -1.75mm.
We had such an overwhelming response to our recent Facebook giveaway that we bumped the crochet hamper giveaway from one prize draw to two! Two lucky Facebook ‘likers’ each won:
- 4x balls of Vinni’s Nikkim
- a Crochet Stamp from our ‘useful things’ section…
- and a Soft Handle Crochet Hook from our new KnitPro stock!
…and now we’re almost at 500 ‘likes’ so look out for the next giveaway which should be coming soon!

GUEST BLOGGER: BETH BURKE
As crafters/knitters/crochet-ers, we all have different approaches and criteria when it comes to our projects; whether they pertain to our choice of yarns, the endless options of patterns and designs that appeal to us…and why we enjoy creating hand-made.
We have asked a few fellow crafters to share their personal experiences; tribulations and trials – as guest bloggers on our site. Today we would like to introduce Beth Burke!
You can read Beth’s first guest blogger post “Small Stitch Marker – Big Difference” – a review of our awesome stitch markers at Natural Yarns.
“Zero to Hero” – is Beth’s account of how she got pranked in a Coke Zero ad (which she was AWESOME in – be sure to watch the viral video!), all because of a pair of shoes!
Beth has just posted her third post on our blog, entitled “Puppy Love“- a wonderful story about someone in her life, who Beth considers totally ‘knitworthy‘!
Nurturing Fibres has a new and awesome SUPER CHUNKY yarn called “The Big Easy” which they recently launched.
150g | 96m | 100% Merino | Super Bulky | Needle: 8mm – 10mm | Price: R 160
Wondering what the gorgeous colourway of the Big Easy skein above is?
It is “Imhoff’s Gift” which is in The Nurturing Fibres Colours of the Month – April 2014 – These absolutely stunning colourways are orderable in any NF yarn bases until the 12th of May! Click here to go to the page!
We have lots of Adele’s yarns (plus some new ones!) on their way in the next month and we’ve had so much fun (well it was difficult fun!) trying to narrow the choice of colours. We will stock their 4ply DK as well as a couple of other new yarns! Watch Facebook & Ravelry for details!
I know you are going to have lots of fun planning projects for these lovely, lovely yarns, hooks, needles & other goodies to help you craft & keep you cosy for the colder months ahead!
Keep well (and warm!)
