Ann’s Graces Studio presents DYER’S CAULDRON: An introduction to natural dyes, mordants, & modifiers Summer 2021.
ABOUT:
The process of natural dyeing can only be described as ‘alchemical’, poised between chemistry, art, & chance! While it is possible to achieve fairly consistent outcomes, numerous factors can result in unexpected & exciting results. This trio of workshops cultivates a hands-on understanding of the vagarious process of extracting colour from plant matter, & controlling colour variation through mordants & modifiers; equipping participants with a holistic, exploratory comprehension of this ancient practice. Each workshop is based on a seasonal dye option:
DATES:
Saturday 30 January – Herb Leaf Dye
Saturday 06 February – Berry Dye
Saturday 13 February – Flower Dye
TIMES:
10:00 – 13:00 +-
FEE:
R450.00 for all 3 workshops & a follow up feedback tutorial (date & time TBD); excludes the supply of the natural dye materials, which you will need to ‘forage’ for; & the textile/yarn substrates.
Fees are due on confirmation & are not refundable. A recording of the workshop will be provided, in the event that you cannot attend; to be completed in your own time.
As the nature of the workshop requires preparation & individual communication, please confirm your participation via email ASAP.

Natural Yarns in Kommetjie, Cape Town assemble precisely-planned ecru-yarn & mordant kits for the workshops. The cost is R 275.00. They can also arrange courier. The kits feature African Expressions & Stukken ecru natural yarns. Find them here.
