Ann’s Graces Studio presents DYER’S CAULDRON: An introduction to natural dyes, mordants, & modifiers Fall | Autumn 2021’.
The process of natural dyeing can only be described as ‘alchemical’, poised between chemistry, art, & chance. While it is possible to achieve fairly consistent outcomes, numerous factors can result in unexpected & exciting results. This hands-on workshop cultivates a holistic understanding of the vagarious process of extracting colour from plant matter, & controlling colour variation through mordants & modifiers – equipping participants with an exploratory comprehension of this ancient practice; opening the way for each individual’s pursuit.
Each workshop is based on 2 seasonal dye options: herb leaf, fruit, root, & flower dyes. This season calls for an introspective ‘forager’s basket’ of the late harvest. In particular Rosemary resonates with remembrance.
